Public Storage is a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) and a recognized constituent of both the S&P 500 and FT Global 500 indices, primarily focusing on the acquisition, development, ownership, and management of self-storage facilities. As of September 30, 2020, the company maintained a significant operational footprint, including: (i) 2,504 self-storage properties situated across 38 U.S. states, encompassing a total of approximately 171 million net rentable square feet; (ii) an approximate 35% common equity holding in Shurgard Self Storage SA (Euronext Brussels:SHUR), an entity that owned 239 self-storage sites across seven Western European countries, providing around 13 million net rentable square feet under the "Shurgard" brand; and (iii) roughly a 42% common equity stake in PS Business Parks, Inc.
